Best entry-level dive computers in Canada: 3 picks for 2026

Many dive computers sold elsewhere are hard to find on Amazon.ca, or only through third-party sellers. We kept the three models we found listed there and compared them on their official specs: gases, algorithm, battery, screen and how easy they are to use with thick gloves in Canadian water.

⚡ The short list

All three models were listed on Amazon.ca when we checked on 28 October 2026. The Mares Puck 4 and the Cressi Raffaello showed only one unit left; prices change often: the button shows today's price and seller.

🧭 How to choose a first dive computer in Canada

1. Readability comes first

In the green water of the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence or the Pacific coast, visibility can drop fast. Digit size and contrast matter more than a long feature list: the D5's colour screen and the Raffaello's large display both help here.

2. Think about gloves

Most Canadian diving is done in a drysuit with thick gloves or dry gloves. The Puck 4's single large button is the easiest to press; on the D5 and the Raffaello, check that you can reach the screens you need without fiddly combinations.

3. Batteries and the cold

Batteries lose capacity in cold water. A replaceable coin cell (Puck 4, Raffaello) is easy to swap before a trip; a rechargeable unit like the D5 needs charging before each dive day, so keep a USB charger in your dive bag.

4. Make sure it does nitrox

Even if you dive on air today, nitrox is a common next step. All three computers here handle it with up to three gases.

5. One computer per diver

A dive computer tracks the nitrogen loading of the person wearing it. Never share one between two divers or lend it between dives, and always follow your own computer rather than your buddy's.

❓ Frequently asked questions

What is the best entry-level dive computer available in Canada?

Of the models we found on Amazon.ca, the Suunto D5 is the most complete: colour screen, up to three gases, compass and optional air integration. If you want the simplest one, the Mares Puck 4 works with a single button and still offers Bluetooth and three gases.

Why are dive computers more expensive in Canada?

Many models are imported and sold by fewer retailers, so prices in Canadian dollars are often higher than a straight currency conversion. Some listings on Amazon.ca are shipped from the US store: check the seller and the delivery date before ordering.

Is a dive computer OK in cold water?

Yes, these computers are designed for it, but batteries lose capacity in the cold. Start a cold-water trip with a fresh battery or a full charge, and wear the computer outside your drysuit sleeve so you can read it.

Which of these computers has a colour screen?

Only the Suunto D5. It is also the only rechargeable one; the Mares Puck 4 and the Cressi Raffaello run on a battery you can replace yourself.

Can I connect a tank transmitter?

Of these three, only the Suunto D5 shows tank pressure, with the Suunto Tank POD transmitter sold separately.
